One person has died and two others are hospitalized after a head-on collision between three vehicles on Highway 401 early Friday.

A fatal collision on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Pickering killed one person and sent two others to hospital early Friday morning, according to the Ontario Provincial Police. (Radio Canada)

One person has died and two others are hospitalized after a head-on collision between three vehicles on Highway 401 early Friday.

Police responded to reports of a collision near Brock Road in Pickering on the westbound freeway lanes shortly after 5 a.m., according to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

Reports indicate that a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle, he said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Schmidt said, while two others were taken to hospital.

Westbound lanes on Highway 401 at Brock Road in Pickering will be closed for most of the morning, he said.
