1 dead, 3 adults and a child sent to hospital after crash on Norfolk County Motorway


A crash on a Norfolk County highway north of Simcoe, Ont., left one person dead and sent three adults and a child to hospital Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of a collision between an SUV and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Highway 24 and Townsend’s Concession 7 around 1:40 p.m.

The Norfolk County OPP said the driver of the motor vehicle died at the scene. The passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries. The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of the family.

A child and two adults from the SUV were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Members of the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Law Enforcement team continue to investigate the cause of the accident.

Highway 24 is expected to be closed between Windham Road 6 and Windham Road 7 until around 11 p.m. Thursday.
